Understanding community assets

Community assets are assets that are owned by a local community. Bringing a local asset into community ownership is not easy, but when achieved can become a beating heart of the neighbourhood.

Often, community assets become viable by being associated with a community business. Some such example businesses include:

  • Community Pubs

  • Community Halls

  • Community Shops

  • Community Cafes

Finding a potential property

Usually when a group forms to take on a community asset you'll have the property in mind. But in some cases it can be helpful to search the LandExplorer map. Often local assets come into community hands from the local council, the church or a local landlord.
